Pattaya Hash House Harriers, a mixed hash running every Monday since 1984, was the first hash club in Pattaya. The covid19 crisis in 2020 put an end to the record of having never missed a run.

The H3 in the name Pattaya H3 stands for Hash House Harriers, a running club commonly known as “Drinkers with a running problem“.

There are hundreds of Hash clubs spread around the world, but the original was formed in Malaysia after the 2nd World War.

Alberto Esteban Ignacio Gispert, known to his friends as “G” is credited as the original founder of the Hash House Harriers (a.k.a. Mother Hash), along with Frederick “Horse” Thomson, Ronald “Torch” Bennett, Eric Galvin, H.M. Doig, Morris Edgar, John Barret, and Cecil Lee.

Pattaya has in addition to the Pattaya Hash House Harriers, the Pattaya Dirt Road (PDRH3), Pattaya Jungle (PJH3), Pattaya Monkey (PMH3), Swamp Rat runs, Ferret runs and associated individual runs “ie” Full Moon, Lunar and bar crawls, sadly the once dearly cherished Pattaya Bush (PBH3) is no longer alive and active.

My first run with the PH3 was number 725 on Monday 02 February 1998. I have been an active runner and hare throughout the years having attended three-hundred and forty-three Monday runs. Sixteen as a hare by September 2021.

The Pattaya Monkey Hash was born in October 2005 when it became the third hash in the Jungle stable after the Jungle and Jungle Irregular Lunar were formed some years earlier. The initial thought was to name it the “Evil Boys H3”, but this was disregarded when the married “boys”, thought their wives might get the wrong impression of what we were doing. Like many “good ideas”, the concept was formulated after a certain degree of overindulgence, following a very liquid birthday party the previous evening, which unabated, had continued on to the Jungle mismanagement meeting in the Thistle Hash Bar the following day when the dregs of PJH3 society had even more bright ideas! Why not organise a little more extreme male-only event initially to be held every three months? The run would be a “Ball Breaker” and start in the morning followed by a long circle. We would have a run theme, a shirt would be produced for each run, and afterwards, we would repair to a local hostelry for a meal. Costs would be kept to a minimum by using our own vehicles and by borrowing the Jungle equipment. October 4th 2005, and the first hash took place. Thirteen hashers and one hare departed from Pattaya using three pick-up trucks for the “Lost Virginity Run” hared by Lord Lucan and held in the jungle near darkest Ban Chang. It was here the hash motto “Can’t Do Don’t Do” came into being. It was a hard, wet run! However, gradually the event was proving more and more popular and the runs were organised more frequently, until today (2009) when it has become a bi-monthly event and we try to limit the numbers to 35. As of April 2009, the Pattaya Monkey H3 has become an independent entity, with its own mismanagement and accountability. As of September 2020, over 400 individual hashers have attended the Monkey and the list continues to grow, with the current GM proclaiming the Monkey to be the BEST value for money, Men Only hash in the known Universe. Note: That due to a large number of pages in each book, there will be a small delay as the pictures are loaded into the slideshow. If you see a broken image symbol, refresh the page and the 2nd reload should resolve the problem. A HUGE thank you to Paprika Smiley for his work on taking pictures of each of the pages in the books.
