I joined the Bergen Skydiving Club and took up skydiving as a civilian shortly after leaving the Navy. Bergen is famous for endless days of clouds and rain, and the Bergen Skydiving Club only had one plane, a Cessna 182, making it challenging to accumulate jumps.
After moving to Thailand with blue skies and much larger jump aircraft, a Brittan Norman Islander, Sky Van, CASA, and at times C-130s, skydiving and free-flying became more accessible.
I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to jump with the military in Indonesia and Thailand.
Parachuting is a method of transiting from a high point to Earth with the aid of gravity, involving the control of speed during the descent using a parachute or parachutes. It may involve more or less free-falling (the skydiving segment), when the parachute has not yet been deployed and the body gradually accelerates to terminal velocity.
