An Autobiography

The Norwegian - Biography in the making

In late 2018, I started systematically making chronological notes, having finally decided to venture into the unknown field of authorship. A past close friend of mine, Malcolm Charles Schaverien, aka Harlan Wolff, author of Bangkok Rules and A Farewell to Paradise, and I started collaborating on the book in May 2020. Harlan sadly passed away in March 2021. After his passing, my dear sister, Tanja Laura Dinessen, stepped into the void as a writing assistant. The Norwegian is an autobiography of my life’s trials and tribulations; the good, the bad, and the indifferent, with no holds barred and where no punches are pulled.

The finished volumes will have taken over five years to complete from my humble first attempts at scribbling in 2019. They will weigh enough to give any bookworm a bicep and be packed with thrilling adventures. The three volumes are going to end up with well over 2,000 pages when printed. Daniel M. Dorothy, author of Mango Rains and the trilogy; Fat Tony’s Diner, The Chosen, and Chased Through Time, joined the team in May 2023 to lead and manage the editing, styling, and final revisions of the extensive work that, God willing, will be published in 2024. In the meantime, you can come to this blog to read some excerpts from singled-out favoured chapters and other teasers.

Daniel M. Dorothy

I will be sharing my life story, from my birth in Scotland, my childhood in Zambia, and up to the present day. I’ll talk about my education, both primary and higher education, my friends, my experiences in the Navy and SAT Diving, offshore construction, nightlife, and hotels in Bergen and Pattaya. I’ll also discuss my business ventures, both the successes and failures, in Norway and Thailand. Additionally, I’ll touch on my involvement with PH3 (Pattaya Hash House Harriers) in Thailand, Freemasonry, extreme sports, family, and romantic relationships.

The book will extensively cover my part in the ill-fated rescue attempt of the crew of the Russian submarine, the Kursk. I will delve into the political drama, explain how it happened, and relive the dive and the aftermath.

There have been stirring memories, tales, and information from many old friends already, and I gratefully thank them for their assistance. If anybody out there has any interesting stories about me, please share them with me. I have forgotten much.

After the biography is published, this website will serve as an accompanying reference tool; including timelines, photos, videos, references and much more.
